The race for the Cesarewitch Stakes to-day resulted as follows:— St. Gatien 1 Polemic ... ... ... 2 Archduke ... 3 It is announced that Earl Northbrook proposes the abolition of the present standing army in Egypt, and that in its place there should be maintained a force of nine thousand police. The Egypt* ian Government, it is understood, are opposed to Lord Northbrook's scheme. (Received October 8, at 1 p.m.) London, October 7. Another Successful Loan. Tenders for the New South Wales loan "pf five and a-half millions at 3| per cent.,
and at a minimum of 92 were opened to* day. The total amount offered was found to be £13,700,000. Tenders at £93 12s 6d will receive 55^ per cent, of allotment, and those above that price in full.
