Borough Elections.

MIDDLE WARD.

The interest in this election, which took place yesterday, was shown by the large number of ratepayers who assembled outside the Borough Chambers, waiting for the declaration of the poll. At about half-past six Mr Honiss, the Returning Officer, announced the polling to have beeD as follows :— J. Kenshaw ... ... ... 146 E. N. Smith 70 G. Harcourt... , ... ... 32 Total votes polled ... 248 This shows a good average, as the total number of ratepayers is ouly 267, though some of these have more than one vote. The announcement of Mr Rensbaw's success was received with cheers, and in returning thanks" for the honor done him he referred to his former experi« ence in Borough work,*hoped more prosperous times were coming, and promised to Jo his best to bring about that desirable state of affairs. He also urged the neces« sity of prospecting works being carried on vigorously, and trusted that his future actions would entitle him to a continuance of the trust now reposed in him by the ratepayers. NORTH WARD. This election was proceeding to-day, the polling place being the Gresham Hall, and Mr Honiss the Returning Officer, Messrs Wilson and B. Wolff are the candidates, but the general opinion is that the old member will head the list, tip 'to the hour of going to press a little over 100 votes had been registered.
