OUR MINES.
NEW PBItfCE IMPERIAL. Another breaking took place to«day in the sixth stope above No. 6 level, and 2cwt. of specimens were bagged, making the total quantity now on hand . fully 14| cwt. A good show of the precious metal is still visible in the face, a fair show can be seen above where this morning's haul was obtained, and good gold is showing in the roof a few feet further back. The western drive at No. 6 having broken into the Cross winze, the men are now extending it on the break to pick up the footwall branch of the reef, which should be reached in a few feet. CAMBRIA. Retorting took place at the Queen of Beauty battery this afternoon, and produced 24ozs gold. The quantity of quartz crushed was 17 loads, all from the drive and stopes on the footwall stringers ; the yield is a good payable one. A trial parcel from the hangingwall veins has not yet been treated. DAET.
The No. 2 reef, where cut at No. 4 level yesterday, is at a distance of about 215 ft. from the shaft. It is lying in kindly white sandstone, and is so open that it has already drained quite dry. At the time of my visit this morning the men had cut into it quite 3|ft., and even then there was no sign of the footwall. The reef is solid, and carries a deal of both heavy and bright mineral, and the gold seen has been coarse. In places the quartz is floury, and throughout ruby silver is freely visible. From its appearance, and the gold seen, the quartz should shape for a payable yield. As soon as the footwall of the lode is reached no time will be lost in opening out, both eastward and westward. No more quartz has been taken down in the winze at No. 3 level, and the manager does not intend to break the reef till early next week. GOLD RETORNS. Albuenia.—Waite and party have treated a parcel of quartz at the Queen of Beauty mill for 4ozs. 17dwts. gold. Dabt.—Ellings and party and May and party have finished crushings at Bull's mill for the respective yields of 6ozs. 3dwts. and 18dwts. gold. WEEKLY GOLD RETURNS. ozs dwts gr.
