Fatal Fire in Christchurch.

Shortly after three o'clock this morning Feather's Hotel, Lincoln Boad, occupied by Mr J. Hansman, was destroyed by fire. The origin is unknown. Mr Hansman was away in Timaru. Mrs Hansman retired at midnight, when all appeared safe. She left a Bmall fire in the dimngroom grate, and the fire seemed to have commenced in that part of, the building. After the fire a Jew hawker^ lodging at the hotel named Walter Leditt wae missed, and his charred remains were subsequently diicovered. The iumraoees
are:—On the building, £1,500 in tuo Union Company; furniture stock, etc, £1000 in the Australian Mercantile Union Company. *
