PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.
[By Telegbaph.] (from our owk con respondent.)
Wellington, This day
The rumor circulated jeslerday to the effect that there had beon high words between Sir J. Vogel and Mr Stout over the selection of colleagues, and that Sir J. Vogel had refused to accept the names submitted by Mr Stout, would appear to have been untrue, or very much exaggerated, and probably arose out of the dissatisfaction expressed by the Canterbury members at Mr Stout again taking the premier position in the Cabintt.
KegardEng the new Administration and its composition, there is a feeling among members that it will gradually merge into into a Stout»Grey Ministry, that ultimately the Stout Vtgel party will collapse, and that there must be a coalition between Sir J. Vogel and Major Atkinson This, it is thought, will be the end of all attempts to form an Administration. The opinion I eive merely for what it may be worth. It is based npon the assumption lhat the incoming Ministry will be defeated in the course of a few weeks.
It is expected that an attack will be made on the Stout Ministry after they have brought down their Financial Statement, which it is presumed will include proposals for a land tax. Should the new Ministry be defeated, and all chance of a coalition between Sir J. Vogel and Major Atkinson then become hopeless, another appeal to the constituencies is looked upon as inevitable.
I merely give this as lobby talk. Four readers must be left to judge of the like* lihood of any of the contingencies which I have named arising. Our Recreation GroundColonel Fraser is having a bill drafted to enable the Borough of 'i names to sell the present Recreation Ground, and use the funds to acquire a more suitable piece of land, nearer and within the Borough, for recreation purposes. The bill is being drafted by a Government draftsman, and will be advertised in the Thames papers before the second reading. , Messrs Fraser, Cad man, and Brodie had a koirero at Col. Fraser's lodging this morning, and arranged to meet Messrs Whyte and Morris after the Ministry is properly formed, and agree about a programme of requirements. If Capt. Morris obtains a seat in the new Ministry,Messrs Cad mau and Fraser will, but the other Auckland members will not, support him.
Mr Dargaville is furious about not being offered a portfolio, and says he will turn out the new Government within 48 hours.
Members are getting tired of the present state of things, and no hostile movements are anticipated till after the financial proposals are brought down. These, it is said, will embrace a £5,000,000 loan.
