Important Ministerial Statement

The House met at 2.30.

Mr Stout announced the appointment of six of the Ministry, and hoped within a feiv days to have the other two portfolios filled up by North Island representatives, and probably one of them from the Auckland district. It was intended to ask the House to appoint a special Minister to take charge of the mining interest. He hoped there would be no further delay, bat that they would proceed at once to business. They found it impossible this session to make any alteration in the mode of taxation, and this matter would have to stand over until next ses-

sion. The other matters in the Governor's speech would be cousidered this session. They intended to ask the House to ap point a select committee to consider the North Island Main Trunk Kailway, and on such report being received, they would use their best endeavors to have the work pushed along as speedily af possible. He announced that the port* folios as mentioned were provisional, and the others were subject to change, and added that the Financial Statement would be made within a 'fortnight.
