Five New Steamers for New Zealand.

Dunedin, Last night

The Union Company hare three new steamers coming out before the end of the year. The Ohau and Taupo hare been built by Denny and Co. specially for the cargo trade, and will, in connection with the Omapere and Mahinnpna, be engaged in the trade of the East Coast of the North, and the West Coast of the Middle Island. They are designed to carry 1000 tons on light draught. The Ohau will have a refrigerating chamber for 4000 sheep, to convey frozen meat from the smaller ports. The Tekapo has been built by Steele and Co.. of Greenock. She will be 295 feet long, and have a gross tonnage of 2350 tons. She will be employed in the Sydney service with the Hauroto and Wakatipu, and when she is added to the fleet it is probable the company will send a boat monthly to Brisbane to take up and. encourage trade with Queensland. In addition, the company are having two more boats built by Denny and Co. One of these will be for the ordinary intercolonial service, and will be the largest in the company's fleet, being 320 feet long, and in. tended to steam 16| knots an hour on trial; she will be grandly fitted up for passengers. The other will be a cargo boat, 300 feet long, and is to carry over 3000 tons of cargo. When she arrives she will be allotted to the Sydney service, so that the company will then carry on a weekly service to Sydney, via Cook's Straits.
