The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR P.M. Resurrexi. TUESDAY, JULY 22, 1884.

Befobb many hours are past and gone a new Parliament will have been elected for the whole colony, and the political destinies of the people will have been entrusted to the deputies they hare appointed. In many cases regret will doubtless be indulged in after an experience of members in Parliament, but it is needless to say that they will be in Tain, as the people must submit to their choice for the allotted term of three.years, unless an accident occurs, and put up with any misfortune likely to result from the vagaries of their respective representatives. It is always a troublesome task, during election time, to direct the current of public opinion—as many candidates have found out —and great difficulty is experienced in carrying any vein of thought in a direction leading to general benefit; but there appears to be no trouble in making a selection of the best men, as far as we are concerned. There cannot be the faintest; shadow ! of a doubt that such a political combination as we have previously mentioned would very materially benefit our district. That, combination it will be remembered wbb ; Thames, Fraser; Coromandel, Brodie; and Tauranga, Morris. That combination would honestly serve their constituents, and get us our fair share of the loaves and fishes, which our case has proved require to be looked after by our members. It sounds particularly sentimental to go in for principle alone, butsome attention to principal should be combined with it. The electors should not continue to be misled by claptrap, interested candidates, or specious twad.dle. They should consider themselves and their interests.; •'•• ■;.•■..■'■ ■•',■■■' ;, . ".. ••■ .
