(To the Editor of the J vonirig Star.)

Siu,—Shades of Galileo and the In« quisition I Whom have we in a " Humble 13olit rer," who, in your issue of Saturday, informs us that whatever science Kay prove the contrary, he will always hold that the earth and roan were created only 6000 years ago. "Humble Believer" says the Bible tells him so; he is wrong—. Church chronology nany tell him so, but not the Bible, Galileo was quite in accordance with the Bible when he proved from scietfee that the earth was not flit and stationary, but round und moving. Galileo, though in accordance with the , Bible, was not in accordance with ihe teachings of the Churches. Galileo's discovery was a scientific truth which, though smothered for a time by bigotry and ignorance, has fully prevailed. Truth is 'eternally progressive, whether in science ot religion ; and " Humble Believer " may us well try io stop the inflow of the tide with a broom, as to. think he is Btopping the progress of truth by hiding his head in the Bands of ignorance, and < ignoring its progress. If ha will not believe the Bible, Mr Neill, and science, neither would he be convinced though one rose-from the dead.—lam, &c, Humbles Believes.
