As will be seen by our Parliamentary telegrams today, the nomination! for tLe general election are to take place on July 16th, and the polling on the 22nd, while the new Parliament will be called together on August 7th. Humour is busy with the names of several candidates for the Thames, but none of them have as yet publicly declared themselves.

Auckland, This day. It is understood that Mr J. M. Clark, who ran 'Sir George Grey so closely for City East at last election, will not stand for any Beat this time. New Plymouth, Sunday. A requisition is being numerously signed asking Sir Julius Vogel to stand for New Plymouth. Addresses have been issued by Messrs B. M. Smith, W. King, andC. Brown as candidates. . GfiEYMOurH, Yesterday. The friends of Mr A. E. Guinness, and Mr J. Petrie (the present member) are very active, and a keen contest is ex pected. Chbistchpbch, Yesterday. Mr Joynt, solicitor, has consented to contest Christchurch South. A very in» fluential meeting, held to-night at the Corn Exchange, formed, themselves into a committee to secure the return of Sir Julius Vogel for Christohuroh North.
