In the House of Commons, the Hon|; Evelyn Ashley, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, stated that the Queensland Government were honestly desirous of remedying the labor traffic abuses. At a meeting of thirty thousand Orangemen, held at Belfast, resolutions were passed condemnatory of the administration of Earl Spencer as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. The Marquis of Normanby, who is at present in New York, has visited President Arthur. De Gaeriff, who assassinated General Sudeikin, chief ,of the Russian police, has been captured. Sir Andrew Clarke, who represents Australia on the Suez Canal Commission, has been appointed Vice-President of that. Commission. The freedom of the County of Ayr has been presented to, Sir Thomas Mcllwraith (ex-Premier of Queensland) and Sir John Mcllwraith. ' \ Sir Thomas Mcllwraith has expressed his belief that Lord Derby will shortly be compelled to annex New Guinea.
