QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
A pleasing, and what may prove to be an important, discovery was made last night at No. 7 level. The manager has for some tiire past been driving Beaward here on a reef which was cut in the pump shaft between Nos. 6 and 7, but the country was of an unfavorable nature, and though the lead carried good minerals, no gold was seen. A change of ground has now come in, however, and in breaking down last nigbt strong dabs of gold were freely seen. The reef is over two feet thick altogether, there being a solid vein of quartz on 9ach wall, and stringers striking through the mul* lock between. The gold was found in the hangingwall vein, in dabs of rotten quartz, and seems to be free from mineral. It was seen from the roof to the floor, and the manager is now in hopes of opening up a payable block. The face is iv 93ft from the Queen of Beauty shaft, and there is 250 ft to drive to the Piako shaft, where the same reef, showing gold, was out in the chamber of No. 7 level, while in the old Queen of Beauty ground it is unworked to a point above No. 6 level, thus giving plenty of backs. Some tributers had it in the Piako end, and underhand stoped it below No. 6, they getting payable quartz. The men are now putting in the dig, but another breaking down, will probably take place to-morrow. EOCEY POINT. In breaking down the reef in the. second stope yesterday 121bs of picked s.'^one were secured, and another lOlbs c/atne to hand to day, making the total tiow on hand about 701bs. As the general dirt is also of excellent quality, thn crushing should be a good one. In the southern drive the men were to day stripping, but the ''lode wiil be broken down to-morrow. __)
