Fraud is suspected in connection with the insolvency of Moncrieff, at Ohinemutu. His liabilities, £878 12s, were all con : tracted in one year, and the assets are only about £150. Mr C. C. McMillan has been appointed supervisor in 4he estate, and some strange disclosures are anticipated.
Major Green has laid an information against the natire who assaulted him at Cambridge. Licensing Committee in Trouble-
It is reported that the proprietor of one hotel to which a license was refused intends to issue a writ against the Licensing Commissioners for £300 damages.
It is said that three first-class police sergeants are to be remoTed from Auckland, and their places filled by a sergt.-major. This is by way of retrenchment. It has been decided by the Pastoral Association to hold a horse parade on the 20th September. The City Schools Committee refused to endorse Mr Stewart's (M.H.8.) circular for the alteration in the Education Act.
The new season's wheat in the Waikato is reported to be of equal quality with that imported from Adelaide. Arrangements are being made for a new cheese factory at Taupiri.
