In its issue this morning, the Daily News publishes an article on the New Guinea Annexation question in the course of which it state 3 that the Government recently sounded one of (he Australian colonies regarding its readiness to contribute towards the expenses in connection with the proposed establishment of British authority at certain points on the coast of New Guinea. It states, however, that it is not likely that the Australian colonies will vote money on such terms as would be acceptable to the Imperial Government, and it considers that the early exercise of British authority in New Guinea need not be expected. Railway Casualty. A serious railway accident occurred last evening near Salisbury. The passenger tram left the rails and fell into the Avon, causing the death of five passengers, and thirty others sustained severe injuries. The death is announced of Lord Claude Hamilton, aged 71.
