THE SOUDAN.
London, May 16. In the House of Lords to-day, Earl Granville announced that Government had^ received a telegram from Cairo announcing that refuges from Berber and Korosko, who had arrived at Assouan, on the Egyptian border, report that General Gordon was well when last last advices were despatched from Khartoum, and that he bad made some successful sorties from Khartoum with the Egyptian garrison, on each occasion successfully attacking the rebels who were surrounding that city.
London, May 17. .. ' Gordon to be Believed. .
' It is reported that GoTernment have now decided-to make preparations for the despatch df 'ah expedition to the Soudan to relieve General Gordon. It is further stated that the troops will start as soon as the Nile river is .sufficiently high to' permit the passage of a small steamer. No. official announcement has yet been made.
. , ,-j Gaibo, May 17. The Governor of -Don'gdla-has declined to accept the permission granted him to withdraw, the garrison and abandon the town.
In consequence of further representaioris- by the Egyptian Government, England has. now consented to dispatch Egyptian troops to Wady Haifa and Korosko, on the Nubian frontier.
