Murder and Suicide.

This day.

It is reported that Garland, licensee of the Arawhenua Hotel, has shot himself and wife this morning. He is dead, and the wife is dying.

Latee.

John Walker Garland; licensee of the Arowhenua Hotel, near Temuka, shot his wife in the bedroom at 6.30 this morning, and then shot himself. Garland died instantaneously, and when the matter was reported, to the police Mrs Garland was dying. Jealousy is reported to be the cause of the tragedy, but all the particulars are not to hand. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
