Driving is in progress as usual on the footwall branch of the cross-reef at the 640 ft level. Out of the twelve tenders sent up for the directors' disposal, that of Hosking and party, at 17s per foot, has been accepted for putting in the crosscut at No. 2 level. The distance to drive is estimated at 103 ft, and the party started operations this afternoon. The manager has not yet received intimation as to the amounts of the other tenders. The Darwin well-hole has been finished, but no sign of quartz has been met with. The guides have also been attended to. The Cambria crushing is not yet completed, the battery being unable to run full time for want of water. BELCHEE. The hangingwall of a body of quartz was struck in the shaft yesterday. It is believed to be identical with the lode found in the creek. The hangingwall has been broken into, but the quartz, though of a favorable description and carrying good minerals, had shown no gold up to this morning. The proprietors are still sinking, the footwall not having yet been reached.
