DUNEDIN.

This day

A female child, three weeks old, was found on Pine Hill road last night, wrapped in a shawl and comfortably clothed; as it rained heavily, the child must have perished had it not been discovered.

At the adjourned inquest on the body of Michael Whelan, found dead at Hamilton, the jury returned the following verdict: —"Died from the effects of ex» cessive drinking and injuries caused by being inadvertently put in a stable, where there were horses, while in a state of delirium tremens."
