The Herald correspondent at Hokianga reports that a dog in the neighborhood had hydrophobia, and it was killed.,. The symptoms were an unnatural protusion of the eyes, and foaming at the mouth.
The jury returned an open verdict at the inquest held on the body of the little girl Smith, who was found strangled on a swing at Ponsonby.
Most of the shooting representatives left for the South by the Te Anau at 12.30 p.m. tcday.
