This day." A Cambridge party of gentlemen arrived here overland fronf Napier last night, having driven in a coach over the entire route via Taupo and Koiorua. They drove over the new road through the bush, and their coach was the first to pass over it.

A four»rooraed cottage, occupied by Strike, cordial manufacturer, was partially destroyed by fire at' 7.30 this morning. At the time the fire broke out, there was no one in the place. Mr Strike is on a visit to Auckland, and had left a lad in charge. The lad left the house at 4 this morning to go to the racecourse. The fire originated in a room occupied by the lad. The insurances are—Building, £175 in the South British; furniture, £200 in the National.
