A Novel Jockey Club has been introduced in this district under the name of the Kai Iwi Jockey Club, all the members of which are Maoris. A programme has been issued for races to be held on the14ih instant, in which added money to the extent of £80 will be given, consisting of Handicap Hurdles of 15 soys., Maiden Plate of 25 soys., Kai Iwai Handicap of 20 soys, Flying Stakes of 10 soys., District Handicap of 15 soys., and Consolation Stakes of 5 soys. The first three and the fifth races are for Maoris only, the horses to be ridden by Maori jockeys only, in colors, the rest being open to Europeans. All the stewards and officers are Maoris, and in anticipation of the event a number of natives have horses in training. Kai Iwi is about 10 miles from Wanganui, and there are several natives settlements in the vicinity.
