DUNEDIN.
This day.
At a meeting of the creditors of Chas. White to-day, it was resolved to transfer the estate to the official assignee. The debtor in his statement said :—" I am also indebted, or may be liable in accounts, for various sums received by me asj;rustee in several bankrupt estates." One or two creditors present said it appeared White kept no trust account, and White collected calls in several estates, but he paid no debts.
On Pearoe, who was accused of the murder of the woman Hancock, being arraigned, he asked the Court to provide him with counsel, as he had no funds, the Judge said he had no power, although he thought the Government would do so as in previous cases ; and if the Government would not assign counsel, probably some member of the bar would volunteer to defend him gratuitously. He would oordmunicate with the Government to provide funds for counsel. The case was adjourned. John Kenton, aged sixteen, pi aded guilty to housebreakingv and was sentenced to three months.
