OUR MINES.

DART.

The No. 2 reef was broken early this morning in the third stope above No. 3 level, eastward of No. 2 winze, and 601bs of specimens were secured. This haul was taken-from a point several feet distant from where the run of gold was passed through about a month ago. As the bat* tery is now running 16 hours per day, and the general dirt last month shaped so well, a good return may be expected when cleaning up takes place.

QUEEN OF BEAUTY.

The gas continuing to make it almost impossible for the men to work in the Vanguard crosscut at No. 8 level, the manager has had 2-inch pipes fixed ia the shaft from the surface to No. 8, for the purpose of trying whether a jet of water from these would not drive enough air in to dispel the noxious vapour.

CALEDONIAN.

The manager reports : —" The contractors at No. 2 level are making good progress in good country, and 40 or 50 feet more driving should bring them on the leader. They are stillcarrying the small crossleader along with them, but there is no improvement since my last. The men have now settled down to work after the holidays. In the stopes, which are now again in full swing, the different branches are looking much the same. A few pounds of picked stone came to hand from the Red Queen leader this week.— T. B. Hicks."
