Canon Westcott, who preached a sermon at the consecration of Dr Barry, in referring to the ceremony expatiated upon the peculiar fitness of Dr Barry for the office to which he bad been clfosen. Great excitement prevailed in Dromore, County Down, Ireland, in consequence of the Orange and Parnell meetings. A serious disaster has occurred on the railway near Toronto. Baron MacLeay, the New Guinea explorer, has addressed a letter to Lord I'erby, the Secretary of State for the colonies, urging the British Government, if it should decide to annex New Guinea, i to respect the rights of the natives, and expressing fears that attempts will be made to kidnap them for the labour trade.
