The Murder at Dunedin.

(Peb Pbess Association.) Dunedin, Yesterday

Further particulars of the murder of the woman Hancock by Pearce show that the pair had been drinking together on Saturday, and had a quarrel. The wound is a gaping one on the left side of the body above the hip. The woman lingered in her own house till yesterday morning, when she died, and about 8 o'clock this morning Pearce reported to the police that the woman, had died

suddenly daring the night. The police found the body with the wound on it, and also several bruises. An inquest was held ; this afternoon, at which the only evidence was that of Pesree, who deposed to the identity of the deceased. He had known h?r for eleven years, and had lived with her for four months. A post mortem examination showed that death resulted from the wbund. The woman is the divorced wife of a man who was a wellknown publican in Dunedin some years ago. It is believed that there were ""several persons present about the time of the quarrel between the two, and that Mrs Boyd, who attended the woman after the occurrence, can give material evidence, which will probably be taken at the adjourned inquest on Friday.
