WANGANUI.
Yesterday
A rather peculiar fix occurred at a special meeting of the County Council, called for this morning. The chairman, who was appointed during his absence at last meetiDg, delined to act, and tendered his resignation. No member could be induced to accept the position, as it is thought the Council will collapse in a month or two, and they do not want to have the fag end of the work. Eventually after an hour's discussion, five names of councillors agreeable to the course were put in a hat and drawn, the lot falling on Mr C. R. Sommerville, who was then elected.chairman.
