OUR MINES.
NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
loOlbs specimens were obtained this afternoon from the stopes eastward of the break, No. 5 level, viz., No. 1 section west. DARWIN. The trial crushing was completed to-day, the result being 16ozs 18dwts melted gold from 18 loads quartz. This is a payable return, as the reef is of fair size, being seldom less than two feet, and is easily , worked. There was little picked stbne worthy of the name, the best being about, 61bs. obtained soon after the lode .was struck. The winding machinery was started this afternoon, and works smoothly; indeed its expeditious and satisfactory erection reflects credit on the manager. At present two tanks are engaged baling the water which has accumulated in the shaft during the past few days; but the men will probably get underground to* morrow, and this week should see mining operations fairly underway., NEW DIAMOND. The lode was broken down to-day. Dabs and colors of gold were seen, but no picked stone was obtained!. The reef is about a foot wide, and looks well. The little gold-bearing leader met in the dig a few days ago has not yet junctibned with it. DART. The manager reports obtaining lewt picked stone and specimens from the second slope, No. 3 level. QUEEN OF ENGLAND. The contractors touched the reef last night after driving 43ft. Very little can yet be said about its quality, but the sample of quartz broken out is of a favorable character. . ... LONDON. The drive on No. 2 leader holed through to the winze from No. 3 level this.forenoon. This Will provide ample yentija* tion, and the crosscut for the winze oh No. 1 reef will be started at once, the distance being about 100 feet. HAND OF FRIENDSHIP^ Breaking down in the drive has been postponed owing to want of hoppers. This want is now being remedied, and ample accommodation will be provided in a few days, as the framework of the hoppers is already in position. The lode in the winze is exceedingly promisinglooking, but no gold has yet been seen. QUEEN OF BEAUTY. ; The crosscut towards the Vanguard reef has been driven 345 feet, and is now in good sandstone country. The Bird in* Hand leader should be to hand towards the end of this week. The crosscut at the 640-feet level to interseot the droppers from the main reef is in about 10 feet, in a favorable class of country.
