OUR MINES.
NEW PEINCE IMPERIAL
The mine manager reports :~196 loads of quarfz have been crushed during the week for 5200zs amalgam. In driving east on No. 2 lead at No. 5 level, both lead and ground continue to improve. Gold is seen freely each breaking down. On Saturday 3 or 41bs of good picked stone came to hand. There is a nice show of gold in the back of the drive, 15 feet from the face. The quartz coming from here and the stop.es is crushing first-rate. 3cwt. of specimens and picked stone were obtained during the week from the slopes No. 2 section west, and some more good hauls may be expected from here, No. 1 section, in the coming week. Stoping on No. 1 reef is proceeding as usual, and the dirt is shaping about the same. Driving west on this reef at No. 3 level is in progress, and the lode maintains its promising appearance, showing occasionally strong dabs of gold. The winze contractors at No. 2 level are not making very good progress, although the ground is favorable.
MOANATAIEI
The mine manager reports":—" Nonpareil section, intermediate level: Two leaders are being driven on; one is 90ft north-east of shaft, it is 8 inches wide, and composed mostly of clayij intermixed with quajtz, all of which is being crushed. The other lead is a short distance southwest of the shaft: it is about 4 inches thick, and produces a little picked stone. The Crown crosscut leader has been driven on about 30ft. The country in the face of the drive is rather /too much broken at present for the existence of gold in payable quantities. I therefore stopped it, preferring to do some stoping to see if the lead improves upward. 132 feet level: Most of our operations have been confined to hangingwall portion No. 9 reef since my last. Colors only have been met with.
KURANUI HILL.
The leading stope having been carried back to the KTazclbank winze, there is now an excellent current of air. Driving has been resumed on No. 9 lode, which is looking better than a few feet back. Stoping is proceeding on the big reef, the hangingwall leader, and No. 9, in a golden locality, and the manager is hopeful that good ground will be disclosed.
