Southern Mining.

A recent issue of the West Coast Times says ;—The mine manager of the Oriental, Reefton, struck splendid stone, going east in the second stope, and above the low level. Several directors and others interested ,have visited the mine, and all* are united in confirming the discovery of some very rich stone. The gold can be plainly seen right along the face in every piece loosened, and the character of the stone seems different to any yet found in the district. Until some work is done it will be difficult to say whether this is altogether a separate reef, or only a splice to the north reef.—r-At Boatman's the mine manager of the Specimen Hill has struck some excellent stone in the uprise from the No. 3 level. It will thus be seen that splendid prospects extend over a large- area in this claim.
