OUR MINES.
i NEW PRINCE- IMPERIAL:
Another breaking down of No. 2 reef took place to-day in the 11th stope went above No. 5 level, at a point about 30 I feet west of the break, when the good haul of 2cwfc of excellent specimens and picked stone was bagged. A little gold was left visible in the face, and a fair show in the back of the stope. The reef in the 12th stope, east of the break, is looking well, and a few good stones were secured from the footwall branch to-day. The eastern drive on No. 1 reef at No. 4 level will be stopped tosmorrow ; the manager knows it is near Hand of Friendship boundary, and as he does not want to encroach, work will be suspended until a survey has been made! The men employed here will be removed to the eastern drive on No. 2 reef at No. 5 level. This is in 100 ft from the crosscut, and the quartz looked well when work was stopped through; the fear of meeting with a stream of water. MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. The contractors for the shaft are making good headway, being down nearly 60ft. The country since passing through the surface dirt has been a soft blue rock, easily worked. This is unfavorable for gold', but will no doubt prove to be only a bar, such as is frequently met with on. this field.? ■ 7 :.:.' •-.!,yi:.\J :''::'. : X SEYMOUR Since the rise put up by the manager from the bottom level holed through to the reef discovered by Mr Kneebone on the back of the slide, driving has been carried on eastward. The face has been advanced about 15 feet, and the reef for that distance has averaged over two feet in width. It is a nice compact body, lying in good sandstone. It is easily broken, no powder being required. No gold has yet been seen in the quartz, but it carries good minerals, and is by far the best looking dirt that has yet been won from the mine. A trial parcel of five loads is now being treated at Bull's mill. Should it give even lOdwts per load, the return will be payable, and; the manager will then take steps to open up a good block, and also to see whether the lode does not descend to the low level, which, judging by its present strike and underlie, it should do ahead of the crosscut put in by Mr Kneebone in search of the Luck* now reef. - ■: GOLD RETURNS. ; Moanataiei,—Guthrie and party, tri* buters on No. 9 reef above the Company's workings in Heldt's section, have crushed 12 loads of general dirt, and 601bs specimens, for the .good yield of 70ozs 9dwts gold.—Sly and party, tributers in the Golden Age section, have crushed two loads for oozs lOdwts gold. ;. Adelaide.—Mander and party have treated about 30 loads of generaldirt for the payable yield of 38ozs 17dwts gold.
