NEW PEINCE IMPERIAL.
A breaking down took place today iii the 11th stope west above No. 5 level, and 1501bs of excellent specimens were bagged, a good show of gold still being left. This makes a total of 4|ewt stone on hand.
HAND OF FEIENDSHIP, '■: The winze on. No. 1 reef at No. 4 level will be commenced to-morrow morning by wages men. The crosscut at No. 1 level is in very hard ground at present, but the bar is not expected to be of large size. LONDON. The contractors for sinking the winze on the footwall of No. 2 reef from No. 3 level are down 68ft., and will finish the contract to-night. It is probable that the manager will then remove them to the winze on No. 1 reef, which still requires to be sunk a few feet to be low enough to connect with No. 4 level. The contractors for the eastern dHve at No. 4 are in 50ft, leaving 60ft. to reach the point where the winze was sunk. The country is somewhat tight, and the leader has not been broken down lately, the manager being desirous of connecting with the winze as quickly as possible in order to ensure good ventilation. The company's men are stopiDg out a small block on the No. 1 reef at No. 3 level; colors of gold are seen in breaking the quartz, which should be of payable grade.

The Hianagerhas succeeded it Setting a hole through to the Piako shaft at No. 8 level but the workings there being foil of gas, the draught from the Bird-inland shaft is driving it back to the main shaft, lhis will, no doubt, clear away in a day or so, and the contractors will then be able to resume work in the Vanguard crosscut. .. :; ,\,
