Thames Hospital.
The usual meeting was held yesterday afternoon. Present—Ee'vs. S. J. NeillTv (Presiding) P. O'Eeilly, Dr Kilgour, and Messrs Brodie, Ehrenfried, Fraser, Hall, McGowan, Osborne, Eadford, Eenshaw, and Stone.—The 'House Committee reported to the effect that* certain necessary repairs had been effected; a nurse had been appointed; recommended that in lieu of the Secretary receiving £60 per annum, salary and commission, be be 1 paid £70 without commission, and that Veil, the gardener at the Old Men's Kefuge receive 10s per month for his diligence. The report was adopted.— —The surgeon reported formally, stating that the Old Men's Home was crowded, and that an inmate named Jeanes was capable of earning his living;~ this matter was referred to the House Committee.—The financial statement showed receipts, including Bank of New Zealand, to be £618 6s, and the expenditure, containing an item of £401 4g 2& paid to Bank of New Zealand, at £1 less. Tiie liabilities, consisting of salaries, accounts, and two contracts amounting to £147, totalled £324 19s 2d. Adopted.— Several items of repairs, which were drawn attention to by the architect, were referred to the House Committee.—Plans for a proposed new Hospital were submitted by the architect, who attended and explained them. It was decided to forward them to the Colonial Secretary, with a view to a portion being erected at once, to be used as a^surgical ward and dioing room.— After a long, and atone time slightly acrimonious discussion, the motion'pf (wfiich the Eev. Father O'Eeilly had given notice was put and lost. It was (o the effect that a resolution previously carried on the motion of Mr Eensbaw, that the offices of Surgeon, Dispenser, and Secretary be made permanent at once, should be rescinded.—Dr ffilgour in the absence of the Eev. H. BulJ, who had given notice of motion that such an alteration as had beea proposed by Mr Eenshaw should be made a recommendation to the next annual meeting of subscribers, and if possible that the House Surgeon should be a resident officer ; rose to propose it, but the Chairman ruled the motion out of order, as it was contingent on that already, negatived.—Dr. Kilgour then gave notice of motion, "That it be a recommendation from this Committee to the next annual meeting of subscribers that the HoUse Surgeon should be resident in the Hospital, and should not be allowed the right of private practice."—lt was resolved that a special meeting be held on W!ed« nesday, the2Bfch inst., at 7.30 o'clock p.m., to consider the new rules of the itistitu* Hon.—The Eev. P. O'Reilly, and Messrs Fraser, Hall, and Mennie, were elected the House Committee for the ensuing month, and the meeting rose.
