Consols are quoted at 1011, being a further advance of an eighth. The weekly returns of the Bank of England show the reserve of notes and bullion to be £12,200,000, an increase ot £100,000 during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities remains at 43 per cent. The Bank rate is 3 per cent., and the market rate 21. New Zealand securities remain at last quotations:—s per cent. ? 10-40 loan, 105£; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 103|, ex div.; 4| per cent. 1879* 1904 loan, 109f; 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 100, ex div. Colonial bread stuffs : —Adelaide wheat, ex store, 45s 6d ; New Zealand, 38s 6d to 44s 6d; Adelaide flour, 325. Australian tallow.:—Best beef quoted at 38s, being a decline of sixpence; best mutton, 395, a decline of one shilling. Berlin, November 8. Prince Frederick William, Crown Prince, proceeds to Madrid next week on behalf of the Emperor William, to return the visit which Sing Alfonso recently paid to his Imperial Majesty. Paris, November 8. The Government has asked the Chambers to vote nine millions of francs, to cover the expenses of the French expedition to Tonquin. ' </, .. Belgrade, Nov 9. London, Norember 8. Colonel French, the commander of the Queensland land forces, sailed for Australia per the steamer Paramatta to-day. At a farewell banquet to Mr Simon Fraser at Langham's Hotel a largo number of colonists were present, including Mr Murray Smith and Sir Saul Samuel. The Rev. R. Alfred Barry, who was recently appointed to the Metropolitan See of Sydney, is declining many offers of clerical assistance until he has made -himself acquainted with the wants of his diocese.
Lord Harris is making arrangements for a cricket team to .visit Canada next season.
It is rumoured that the English man-of-war Dryad has been withdrawn from Tamatave at the request of France.
