The six nights' " Conditional Immortality " debate between Geo. Brown and T. W. Dunn, Presbyterian minister, commences next week.
The first series of twelve cases under the Contagious Diseases Act was heard yesterday. No attempt was made to set up a defence in any of the cases. The Benclivras thoroughly satisfied as to the evidence tendered by the police, and a magisterial order was issued for the. whole of the women concerned to present them* selves for examination by the medical officer. The list had been compiled in a most impartial manner, the selection" being taken from every class of demimonde,—the expensively-apparelled occupant of the " retired villa residence" being placed cheek by jowl with her humbler sister in guilt from Chancery, street dens.
