AUCKLAND.
This day.
John Walker, aged 92, a Waterloo veteran, died at the Mount Eden gaol, to which place he had lately been committed for vagrancy. He was born in India in 1791, consequently he was one of the first English born subjects under the British Crown injlndia. He was in this colony in 1840.
The damage done'to Heather's stock by fire is estimated at £2000.
A sale of Crown lands in various parts of the province was held yesterday, and realised £6392.
At the Surrey Hills estate sale 67 allotments fetched £20,227. The estate contains upwards of 2000 allotments.
