Eecovered on account of " unauthorised " expenditure of previous quarter, £2529 6s 4d; defi* ciency bills issued under Section 18 of the Public Eevenues Act, 1878, £109,000; grand total total of receipts, £1,263,263 14s 2d.

The expenditure for the quarter was: — Permanent appropriation, civil list, £7208 14s 8d; interest and sinking fund, £455,295 12s lid; under special Acts of the Legislature, £16,124 15s 3d ; Ellesmere and Forsyth reclamation and Akaroa railway trust, £142 19s 106*; total, £478,042 2s Bd. Annual appropriation: Legislative and Civil Service, £572,488 2s 6d.—Services not provided for, £399 11s 8d; total, £1,050,929 16s 10d.—Balance on 31st September, 1883,£204,257551 id; total, £212,333 17s 4d. Grand total of expenditure, £1,263,263 14s 2d. The land fund account for the quartel' was as follows :—Receipts : Balance of June 30th, 1882: Cash in the Public Account, £60.434 14s 6d; advances in the hands of Government—colonial, £27,821 16s 7d ; foreign, £668 14s 6d ; land sales (for cash) £53,785 2s 2d, (on .deferred ptyments) £26,604 9s lid ; recoveries *'bn account of unauthorised expenditure of previous quarter, £160 ; total receipts, £169,474 17s Bd. The expenditure is as follows:—One-third of proceeds of land sold on deferred payments- paid over, to local bodies, £4763 17s lOd ; New Plymouth Haibor Board Endowment, £828 6s Id ; Ellesmere and Forsyth's reclamation and Akaroa railway track. £1465 Is. Annual appropriation :—Minister of Lands £42,245 18s 6d; Colonial Treasurer, £1660; services not provided for, £900.
