DUNEDIN.
This day. Mr Bracken has communicated with the Minister for Public Works calling his attention to the discharge of a large number of carpenters from the Hillside workshops, and enquiring if it could not be avoided in view of the existing trade depression. The Hon. Mr Johnston replies that the men were temporarily employed both here and at Addington to bring up arrears, and he has no further employment for them.
