From the returns of immigration and emigration to the 30th ult., I find that in September 1299 persons arrived in the colony, and 517 left it. The arrivals included Auckland 898, Invercargill 309, Wellington 71, Duoedin 46, and Lyttelton 37. The departures included Invercargill 209, Auckland 131, Wellington 117, and Lyttelton 37. The Chinese arrivals during the quarter nnmbered 10, and the departures 152, and for September the arrivals were 7, and the departures 15. Chinese immigration has been effectually checked, for only 29 have arrived during nine months, while 262 have left.
