TIMARU.

Yesterday. Reuben Smith, Capt. of the Salvationists at Timaru, was charged this morning at the E.M. Court with causing an obstruction in the streets last Saturday by heading a noisy demonstrative procession, thereby inducing a crowd to collect, whereby the streets became choked, impassable for vehicles, and dangerous for horses. A fine of ten shillings and costs was inflicted. Defendant's counsel gave notice of appeal to the Supreme Court. A charge of obstruction against one Maizengart and five* others, members of the " Progressive " or " Skeleton " army was similarly disposed of, on the application of counsel, the offence having been committed simultaneously with the former, and the evidence in both oases being the same.
