This day. The Minister of Justice, writing to Mr Bracken, M.H.R., in regard to Flannery's case, says his evidence before the Gaol Commission was unreliable and evasive, and that Flannery may accept the principal wardership at another gaol, or retire on compensation. The Fenstanton arrived at the Heads at three o'clock this mornings and crossed the bar two hoars later, drawing 2Offt aft. Captain Williams is in command. She has 2000 tons of cargo. During the passage she attained an average speed of 11 knots, and the best day's work was 290 miles. Her passengers enjoyed good health.
The twenty-four hours' walking match between Edwards and Scott is fixed for October sth and 6th.
At the Police Court, Robert Angus was charged with obtaining money under false pretences, in giving a cheque on the Union Rank at Balelntha. His counsel urged that a&there was no branch of that Bank at Balclutha, the information could not be sustained j. Mr Watt, E.M., said the information would'be dismissed on technical grounds; and edefed. that the accused did not leave tEe Court without a- stain on his character.T^
