AUCKLAND.
This day. Samoan Annexation. Mr J. Lundon, formerly member for the Bay of Islandg, writes from Samoa that a great deal of discontent prevailed there amongst both natives and Euro* peans with the nature of the Goternment, and that a petition would be generallysigned praying that the Islands should be annexed to New Zealand/ The matter has been laid before Sir Geo. Grey, who recommends that a form of petition be drawn up, under the Annexation Act of last session, and forwarded to Mr Lundon to obtain"signatures. Charles Fletcher, a batcher at Mercer, committed suioidV by drowning in the Mangahawhiri creek on Saturday. He had been drinking heavily, had been suffering from rheumatics, and was in, peouniary difficulties. Death of a Doric Passenger. ; Hannah Pearson, aged six months,"a passenger by the Doric, died at the quarantine station on Saturday night, from pneumonia after measles.
