CORONER'S INQUEST.

A Coroner's inquest was held at 3 o'clock this afternoon before Dr Kilgour, Coroner, and the following jury:—Angus Ross t foreman), W. Ferguson, T. Dick, C. r Moorcraft, C. McLiver, J. Wilson, J. C. | Williams, J. George, G. Crocker, 0. J. Brown, J. Finlay, and W. S. Greenville. ' After the jury had viewed the body, the i Coroner asked the palice on what day would they be able to go on with the case, as it was necessary to adjourn the inquiry. Sergt.-Major Kiely said two important witnesses, Capt. Smith, of the Sea Bird, and David Phipps, who was in the boat with deceased, were in Auckland. They would be subpoenaed, and should be here by Wednesday next. Mr J. A. Miller, who asked to be allowed to appear on behalf of Mr T. C. Bayldon, asked whether, the police intended to get the evidence of any nautical men, as to the course pursued by the Harbormaster and the Captain of the Sea Bird, &o. If this were done now it might do away with the necessity of another inquiry. Sergt.«>Majar Kiely replied that be intended to call Capt. Miller, of the Enterprise, who would depose as to the speed the vessel was going at, and Mr Page, of Tararu, who witnessed the accident. There were also some nautical, men on the jury, who would be able to give evidence. After a little desultory conversation the Coroner adjourned the inquest to Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock, binding over the jurymen ■in £10 each to appear at that time.
