AUCKLAND.
This day.
At the Harbour Board meeting yesterday it was stated that the following amounts would be expended on works
connected with the harbor .-—Dock, £120,000 ; Hobson street wharf, £6,000 : Mechanics' Bay reclamation, £18,000; Queen street reclamation, £6,000; new tees, ±-6,000. The Freezing Company's reclamation will cost £30,000. Taking the above amounts with the money to be expended by the City Council with loan, and the proposed large building operations in Queen street, labour will be in great demand for some time. One of the schemes submitted to the Harbor Board yesterday is to construct an embankment, three chains wide, from Shelly Beach to the Orakei Basin, whereon it is proposed to construct a Southern Trunk Railway to connect the present line with the Penrose Junction.
