[Received August 10,1.240 p.m.] : Melbourne, This day, : The (Governor has received a telegram from Earl Derby notifying that arrange' ments have been made by the Imperial Government for the Irish informers to be returned to England. The Governments of New South Wales and South Australia, bar© accepted the invitation of the Hon. J. Service to join, in the proposed annexation conference. The Government of New Zealand have not yet replied to Mr Service's communi cation, and the Government of Tasmania declined to take part in the conference. Sydney, This day. ; An extensive fire occurred last night in D'Arcy street, resulting in heavy loss. The premises destroyed were only partially insured. Bbisbahe, This day. The general election is now proceeding. The Hon Pope Cooper, Attorney-General, has been elected without opposition. Sydney, August 10. The steamer City of Brisbane ran aground to-day during a .fog, but was subsequently floated off uninjured. Melbourne, August. 10.
The proprietors pf the Melbourne Bulletin have been sentenced to pay-a fine of £250 for libelling a journalist named Elsasser. '
