I NEW PBINCE IMPERIAL. • The sixth stope west, above No. 5 level, has beetr carried along the break in the dead ground raused by the heave, and the men to day started to strip the reef on the seaward side. The break carries rubbly quartz, in which good gotd was seen. This was a good sign above No. 4 level, and augurs well for the quality of the reef being stripped. .At the directors* meeting on Wednesday, it was decided to sink a winze from the No. 5 level on"No. 2 reef, work to be started as soon as the new engine is in position. The point at which the winze is to be sunk will be decided by the manager in a day or two. The new engine arrived in Auckland on Wednesday by the Tarawera, and was transhipped to the ketch Zillah yesterday, so it should be here to-morrow. DEEP LEVEL GROSS.
The footwall leader in the third stope above No. 5 level was again broken down to day and SOlbs of specimens secured, a little gold being left showing in the roof. The manager has cut into the hangingwall of the leading stope on the footwall branch of the crossreef at No. 5 level, and has broken into the winze sunk from No. 4. The two branches of the reef are 12 or loft, apart. A start was made today (o shoot down the hangingwall branch where stripped in the winze. It is about 2jft wide. A crosscut wilt also be put in to intersect that portion of the reef at the junction of the hangingwall leader of No. 2reef.' . '■' ' ' ' ■ -■■■*'■■ BRIGJLT SMILED \ The stopes above the eastern drive yielded 701 bs more specimens to-day, making a total of 4701bs on hand, and gold still being left showing. The amount of general dirt ready to put through the mill is about 50 loads. GOLjD ; KETI[BNS. City of Manchester.—Stockd»l«y and party have banked 14ozs Bdwts gold. Moanataibi.—Eowe and paety have crushed a few pounds of specimens for the return of sozs 2dwts gold. Ektekat (Karangahake).—The trial crushing of 2901 bs of quartz from this claim gave the good result of 4ozs retorted gold, and the proprietors, Kellr and party, have determined to send doVii a 5 ton lot as soon as practicable, 4£he leader is about a foot in width.
