The Waitara sank in four.minutes, and the, momentary inter* looking of the yards of the tiro vessels enabled sixteen persons from the Waitara to Clamber aboard the Hurunui; otherwise all on the former vessel would hare perished. No steerage passengers were saved, and the Waitara was eogulpbbd before any boat could be launched to her.
