Capetown, July 30. Carey's Assascin Arrested. O'Dbnnell, who shot James Carey on board the steamer Melroae at Port Elizabeth, has been arrested by the police. Naples, July 31. Among the sufferers by the recent earthquake at Ischia are some persons of English nationality. They are, however, few in number. Caibo, July 30. A considerable,decrease is now apparent in the daily number of deaths from cholera, both in this city and Alexandria. The English troops, however, have suffered severely of late, twenty-two deaths having occurred in various regi* ments since Friday last. London, July 27. In the House of Commons last night Sir Stafford Nortbeote's motion urging that the claims of Count de Lesseps to a monopoly for the construction of canals in Egypt should be repudiated in any future parleying with the Canal Company, came up for debate, and an amendment was moved by Mr Norwood, M.P. for Hull, that the House should maintain its freedom of judgment in the construction of canals between the Mediterranean and Bed Seas. After discussion, the amendment was adopted by a majority of 99
votes. The P. and O. steamship Ballarat, from Melbourne, Jane 5, has armed at Plymouth. Arrived: The ship Oamara, from Port Chalmers, May 5.

London, July 30. It is calculated that the number killed by the disastrous earthquake experienced on the island of Ischia is 3000. The western portion of the island suffered the greatest damage, and that bide is said to be completely ruined. Ischia, the capital of the-island escaped injury. Many of the chief members of lioinan society have been killed. Fifty-one deaths have occurred among the British soldiers in Egypt from cholera. Cberif Pasha has consented to execute the British sanitary scheme. A man named Terry has crossed from Dover to Calais oh a floating tricycle.
