GISBORNE.
, This day,/ Mr Matthew Price, late Resident ; Magistrate at Gisborne, died this morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Mathews, Bank of New aged 66,. years. The deceased on* his retirement from the Gisborne Court, was appointed Resident Magistrate for Aahburton, but it has, from the precarious state of Bis health, been generally. thought, thai he would never enter on/hia duties there; his end has been' undoubtedly' hastened through exposure, when he wai burnt out at his lodgings a few weeks ago, when Gruner's house was destrojfedj " Old Mat," as he was familiarly terjied by the West Coast diggers, when adjudicating in that district, has gone tojres"t, and' eve^y 1 where he was known the news will be re^ ceived with regret. His name will live' after him as an upright, straight-forward magistrate. .
