Priestley, who' was tried with Mrs Hamilton for the murder of her husband ' and acquitted, attempted to deliver the first of a series of lectures throughout the colony, under the auspices of an American, agent, in the Onehunga Hall I«sfc mght. A mob surrounded the hotel where Priestley was stoppingVririd pelted him with eggs all the way frgmutfao hotel to-thSTHall, knocking off his hat. The Hall was then besieged and assailed with showers of eggs. Priestley was afraid to leave the building, which was surrounded by the mob, who vowei their determination to give him a warm reception.
