New Gold Separator.
> ' The Auckland Star's correspondent telegraphsfrom Wellington yesterday^ as follows s--The trial of Ashcroft's patent gold separator took place at the Hutt yesterdayi and as I thought a description, of it would 'interest a cumber of yottr readers, I was present. The machine 1 generally consists of v large stationary N f I , «riDdiQg apparatus eonsisls ot two balls -and two arms, to which are attached two wheels of chilled 3teel. The upper portion of the side of tl* Jberdan 18 filled witha floe grating, through/which tne whole of th* ore is forced; and after being <phlrerised tbe ore finds its way into an amalgamator, which is a square box ?u 7, dafih«PS» which completely mi* the gold,with mercury. Tho weight of the machine doeq not exceed 3tcwl.,auJ it will crash a ton and a quarter per day with ease. Amongst those present at the trial were Messrs Sheehan, Morris, Hursthousfe, and J, 0. Brown, the goldßelds memhera: also, Messrs J. B, Why te, F. A. Whitaker, A. porter, Captam Home Deacon, Dt Hector, and, Whitaker. The stone treated was from Te Arohs and West Coast,, and the yield from tho former district somewhat astonished tbe visitors. '
